NS Co-operative Youth Alliance Home
The Nova Scotia Co-operative Youth Alliance is a provincial youth co-operative designed to promote co-operative values and practices throughout communities in Nova Scotia. Sponsored by the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council, NSCYA helps youth and co-operatives in our province develop long lasting relationship to help promote youth involvement and young membership. NSCYA assists youth and co-operatives in building strong business networks through Co-operative Leadership Seminars, Co-operative Internships, monthly meetings, Co-operative Youth Conferences and community events.
What can you expect by being a youth participant?
By becoming a participant you can look forward to new experinces and adventures. Being a participant in the Nova Scotia Co-operatives Youth Alliance means you will have the opportunity to take part in 2 1/2 day Co-operative Youth Leadership Seminar. Meet young people from around the province who, like you, want to make a difference in their community. Meet co-operatives from all over Nova Scotia and learn the importance they play in maintaining a healthy balance in our local communities and local economy. All you need to do is be between the ages of 15-24, and want to get active in your community!
But it doesn't end there!
Become a Youth Board of Directors Representative with a co-op or Credit Union in your community and learn about the great services they provide to your community. Learn the practices and principals that make co-ops a great alternative to traditional business practices. Learn what it means to be a member, and have a say in how your local community economy.
Through our youth internships:
- Become educated about the practices and daily routines involved in operating a co-operative
- Be part of great discussions and be a voice of other youth
- Have your co-operative provide you with training and experience to assist in further employment opportunities
- Provide you with the information you need to inform and educate the general public about the nature and benefits that come with being an active co-operative member
- Learn co-operative work ethics, communication, leadership, responsibility and accountability
